As we get closer to the release of the newest remake of a Hollywood classic, it looks like it just might be a good one. At the first news that a Nightmare on Elm Street as going to be remade I wasn’t all that excited. It just wasn’t one of my favorites. Then the news broke that Jackie Earle Haley (The Watchmen) was going to play Freddy Krueger in it, I got a little excited.

However, with the newest bit of information, I just might have to see this one. MTV Movies Blog has an interview with Haley where he says, “You know, I think my Freddy is just a bit more serious,”. Haley told this MTV’s Vanessa White Wolf during an on-set interview.

Haley also goes on to say, “It’s really important for us, as we’re re-envisioning this, that there’s a good, strong sense of new and fresh but there’s still some recognizability,” Haley said of the adaptation’s faithfulness. “I think a lot of what was in that first movie is also in this movie, in terms of the structure of it and how it plays out.”

As I see it now, this means that instead of the slapstick horror comedy that Robert Englund brough as Freddy Krueger, Haley is going to make it a true boogeyman type of horror. Someone to be really scare of instead of laugh at. In another quote, “We delve into Freddy’s background a little bit more,” Haley explained. “It’s a very similar background to what we know about him, but… I think it’s going to be a unique kind of homage to Wes’s original film.”

I think I can get into this movie.

Nightmare on Elm Street Remake Trailer

Just when I was starting to get a little bit of interest into the new Nightmare on Elm Street movie that is being remade with Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, they go and get me all excited.

Earlier today I posted the new character poster of Haley as Krueger which looked pretty cool. Now there is a brand new teaser poster that looks absolutely incredible. I have to admit that any apprehension I had about watching this movie is now gone.

When I heard the news that Nightmare on Elm Street was going to be remade, I had mixed feelings. Freddy was an alright boogeyman, but the Elm Street movies are not my favorite. I am more of a Jason person.

Anyway, when the news broke that Jackie Earle Haley was going to be playing the role of Freddy Krueger I was a little more intrigued. Now that the first pictures are making their way onto the internet, I have to say that I just might have to see this upcoming release.

New Freddy Krueger

The movie is scheduled to be released on April 16th, 2010 and will also be starring Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker, Rooney Mara, Kellan Lutz, Katie Cassidy, Clancy Brown, and Connie Britton.

I am not usually one to get on the whole “remake” bandwagon. I would like to just keep the old classics the way they are, but a remake of Nightmare just might be something that I will enjoy.

I’m not the biggest fan of the Nightmare on Elm Street series of movies. So, when New Line released the news they were going to remake the original film, I really didn’t think much about it.

However, now that the news that Jackie Earle Haley is going to take over as the nightmare boogeyman Freddy Kreuger, I might be a little more interested.

Haley’s performance as the hooded Rorshach in the epic Watchmen was nothing short of Oscar worthy. He stole the entire movie when his character was in the scene. I am hoping (really wondering) that he could do that with Freddy Kreuger.

Set to begin filming next week, the reboot of Nightmare on Elm Street is scheduled for a 2010 release.
