The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Review

The Sorcerer's Apprentice There are some movies that you really want to like. Then once you watch it you wish that you didn’t give up that important appointment, or date, just to see it. Thankfully The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is not one of those movies.

When my kids saw the advertisement for this movie starring Nicolas Cage, Alfred Molina, and Jay Baruchel they let me know without any type of subtlety that they wanted to see it. I couldn’t blame them actually. I was pretty interested in it also.

A Great Family Movie

With many of today’s family movies there is still some type of language, or situation, that you simply do not want your children to see or hear. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is a wonderful breath of fresh air when it comes to family movies. It is a fantasy based movie where Nicolas Cage plays Balthazar Blake, a sorcerer of the 777th rank that is more than a millenium old, and does all he can to teach his young apprentice, David (Baruchel), the ways of a sorcerer. However, to thwart this effort, and release Morgana (a powerful sorceress bent on destroying the world), Maxim Horvath (Molina) lays a wake of destruction wherever he goes.

Along the way David is also trying to woo his schoolboy crush ten years after he makes a fool of himself in front of her.

Fun, Entertaining, and even Humorous

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice was a lot of fun watching with my family. We enjoyed the time together, had a mountain of popcorn, laughed a little, and felt great after the movie was finished. In fact, the kids went back and watched it again! I’m actually watching it while I write this little review.

While it isn’t really a comedic type movie, you are sure to let out a few chuckles at the expense of David as he tries to both learn sorcery and win the affections of Becky.

Great Choice for Movie Night!

If you have a family movie night on the horizon and you’re thinking about something to watch, check out The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Both your family, and you, will be glad that you did.
