Quarantine on DVD; A Movie-Holic’s Review

quarantineposter Quarantine is the first movie in a long time that, well… jumped me. I wasn’t expecting it, as it takes quite a bit for a movie to either gross me out or get me to jump, but Quarantine did just that. It kept me on the edge of my seat for pretty much all of the last half of the movie.

The premise of the movie is pretty straightforward. A reporter, played by Jennifer Carpenter, and her cameraman, with Steve Harris in this role, follow a Fire Dept. crew to an apartment building where they received some sort of distress call. Once they reach their destination, the film crew and a group of firefighters enter the building. While inside, and they see some pretty crazy stuff, the people on the outside are sealing up the building so noone can escape. They are Quarantined!

Anyway, without giving the movie away… it pretty much gets intense from here on out. The beginning was a little long for my taste. At least for a horror movie anyway, but I quickly forgot it when the stuff really started to happen.

The movie is shot in a Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield sort of style with a cameraman shooting the action from his point of view. This gets a little bit old after a little while. I found myself moving around trying to see around the camera lens to see what was out there. (Hey, I was a little bit jumpy in a few scenes)

Camera point of view aside, this was a solid movie with incredibly hair raising moments and breathtaking scenes that will get even the most hardened horror movie watcher jump. Especially near the end. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

I think the thing that won me over in this is that there wasn’t any really unbelievable type stuff going on and the acting was really very good. Hysterics is a hard thing to pull off without looking cheesy and I think Jennifer Carpenter did a great job with it. That’s probably what pulled me into this movie and got me to jump on a few occasions. I thought it was real.

I highly recommend Quarantine as a highly entertaining, if not downright terrifying, horror movie that I’m sure will find its place into your DVD or Blu-Ray library.
