It would seem that the marketing machine that propelled the phenomenon that is Batman the Dark Knight did it’s job. From the very beginning of it’s run, The Dark Knight was destined to be a money maker. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see it after the huge media frenzy surrounding the movie.
Opening weekend saw it shatter records with an amazing $115.34 million dollars. Considering it cost $185 million to make the movie, I don’t believe producers are that worried about making their money back. However, the Hollywood blockbuster that is The Dark Knight isn’t stopping with the opening weekend record, it’s still making a boatload of money.
Recent estimates put The Dark Knight at over the $400 million dollar mark with another $202 million overseas. The movie is still number one each weekend at the box office, while The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emporer was only $1 million behind.
Will The Dark Knight continue to be top of the money leader board? Or will something be able to topple it this coming week? Will The Dark Knight become the number one grossing movie of all time? Or will it fall short of the mark that Titanic set in the 1990′s?
I don’t know, but it’s going to be fun finding out!
